![]() At the end of these rainbows to our east are the Blue Mountains and the Wenaha-Tucannon Wilderness Area. Would you and your horse like to go wild? We can shuttle you and your rig there and back. |
We offer shuttle service driving your rig to and from McKuster Ranch.
Our closest shuttle is to the BLM trail head just beyond Harris
Park* on the South Fork Walla Walla River
for day rides. The South Fork Walla Walla River Trail is a well-groomed
trail that follows the river upstream through its canyon for 12 miles -
shuttle fee is $25-US.
Or take the trail to the Tollgate Chalet for lunch and we will pick you
up there. Better yet if you have all day to ride you could ride from the
Tollgate Chalet back to the ranch via Lincton Mtn. Road, that is about an
8-10 hour horse back ride with lunch to break the day. You can ride back
to the ranch or we will pick you up at Tollgate Chalet, just give us a call
when you get there for lunch or dinner. We will bring your rig back to McKuster
Ranch for safe keeping while you enjoy your outing - shuttle fee is $45-US.
We will also accommodate you if you wish to make the wild trail ride into
the Wenaha-Tucannon Wilderness Area. The managed
trail system within the Wenaha-Tucannon Wilderness Area totals over 200
miles, with plenty of wildlife, and fishing for trout in gin clear waters.
To take advantage of this wilderness adventure, your drop-off /pick-up points
are the BLM trail head above Harris Park on the South Fork and Elk Flats
on the Wenaha River side of the mountain - shuttle fee is $95-US. To have
round trip shuttle service to Elk Flats, or HooDoo trail heads - shuttle
fee is $190-US.
We also offer shuttle service for the North Fork
Umatilla Wilderness Area and depending on how much time you have, there
are two ways to get there.
1) To ride into the No. Fork Umatilla Wilderness we will shuttle you to
Harris Park/ BLM trail head. At that point you will follow the South Fork
to the Target Meadows Trail, which takes you to the Tollgate area. Consider
having lunch at the Tollgate Store, or maybe even spend the night at the
Tamarack Inn Bed and Breakfast. From Tollgate Store or the B & B you
will then travel about 200 yards along Hwy 204 to access the North Fork
Wilderness trail head. You will then follow this trail through the wilderness
to Corporation -or-
2) We will shuttle you to the No. Fork Umatilla Wilderness Area trail head
just off Hwy. 204 at Tollgate.
From that point the wilderness trail will take you to the forks of the Umatilla
River, just outside of the wilderness area near Corporation, our pickup
point - shuttle fee $95-US.
Contact us soon to make
arrangement for our shuttle services and to keep your rig safe, secure while
you are enjoying these back country wilderness trails. You know there are
very few places you can go these days and get a day's pleasure or entertainment
for so few dollars with your horse.
Here again, if you are not back to your destination pickup point within 2 hours of the appointed time of return, we will come looking for you. When you ride off from McKuster Ranch Trail Shuttle Service, you will not be out there alone. We do strongly suggest that you carry a firearm anytime you are heading into these back country/ wilderness trail areas. This country is still part of the "real wild west". There are lions, rattlers, and bears out there.
If you enjoy horseback riding, and the homelike atmosphere of a bed & breakfast inn at the end of the trail; have we got a treat for you. We will take you to the BLM trail head above Harris Park* on the South Fork and point you in the direction of Target Meadows and the trail leading to the Tamarack Inn Bed and Breakfast in Tollgate. Yep, do the trail ride, when you get to the B&B you'll have a hot shower waiting, and do dinner at the Tollgate Store across Hwy. 204. You will need to make your own reservations for your stay at the Tamarack Inn. After a good night's sleep and breakfast, you can head out in whatever direction, we will have shuttled your trailer to Tamarack Inn. This trail ride is about 12 miles long and covers an elevation change of 2900' - shuttle fee $50-US. A nice weekend getaway with the comfort of good food and bed waiting at the end of the trial. We do not make your reservations at the B&B.
McKuster Ranch also offers a horse B&B with a green grass breakfast and fresh water - $10-US per night per horse -group rates (3 and more) available. So treat your horse to our green pasture B&B, and you can treat yourself to a night on the town. Yep, you can drop your horse and trailer here at the ranch then head out for dinner, movie, rodeo, winery tour, concert, play or county fair; spending the night in Milton-Freewater, the Tamarack Inn, Walla Walla, or camping at Harris Park*. The next morning you can make a day trail ride/ shuttle ride or vice versa from McKuster Ranch.
*Note: If you wish to camp at Harris Park (which allows no horses) and horseback ride the South Fork country, drop your horse off here on your way out to the park. For a $20 shuttle fee (up to 3 horses-using OUR horse rig and fuel -one way) we will bring your horse to you to offload at the BLM park. This allows you to enjoy camping at Harris Park and your horse enjoys a B&B at the ranch.
